Just this weekend I went to a dear friend’s wedding, and caught up with some of my college friends. Of course the wine and the gossip were flowing, and I left feeling nostalgic and all caught-up on some old friends who do a terrible job of posting their lives on Facebook/blogs. Apparently, everyone is doing this Couch-to-5K and Marathon Makeover thing. And as we stuffed our faces with the most decadent wedding cake I have ever tasted, we all laughed and swore we would never do any of that “running” crap, on principle alone….
Well, never say never, my friends.
Matt and I have been talking about how we need to get in shape and start eating healthy. I thought I had him talked in to joining my lovely, air-conditioned, cable-TV accessible gym. But as soon as I got home from the wedding, Matt turns to me and says, “So, there’s this app on the iPhone….” (oh, if I had a nickel for every conversation that begins this way)…”and I was thinking we could do the Couch-to-5K workout! Look–It tracks our progress…”
Today was Day 1, and I didn’t die. Matt, of course, had everything prepared. Last night, he downloaded a Podrunner podcast for Week 1 on our iPods. So today we synced our iPods and took off. We went to the indoor track at the Sportsplex, of course, because it was dangerously hot outside today. It was twenty minutes of running and walking intervals, and the podcast had a signal that told you when to walk and when to run. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be (I say that now; tomorrow will tell a different story). Just when I thought my calves were going to explode, the tempo would change and I knew it was time to walk again. Just have to make it through three more times this week, and we get promoted to week 2.
Stay tuned….this is bound to get funny!
who got married?
My friend Emily from college. She got married in Belize and they had a wedding reception last weekend in Tupelo. The Cake. Was. Awesome.
